Manchester Originals Squad 2023 – The Hundred is a professional franchise 100-ball cricket tournament comprising eight boys’ teams and eight girls’ teams based in major cities in England and Wales. The tournament is organized by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and will take place for the first time in July and August 2021.
Manchester Originals are a franchise 100-ball cricket team based in Manchester. The team represents Lancashire history at the newly formed The Hundred playing at Old Trafford from the 2021 season.
The announcement of new eight-team men’s and women’s tournaments for 2019 has not been without controversy, with criticism from the England and Wales Cricket Board, like Virat Kohli, for trying to move away from Test cricket. While others believe the format should follow the established and complete T20 format. However, the ECB decided that a special model was needed to attract more people.
In July 2019 it was announced that former Lancashire and Australian batsman Simon Katic would become the team’s Coach. Katic recently coached Caribbean Premier League champions Trinbago Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. He was joined by Lancashire manager Glenn Chapple and assistant manager Mark Chilton.
The initial announcement of the Top 100 was made in October 2019, and the Chiefs have announced Joss Butler as their main signing for Manchester, Kate Cross, and Sophie Ecclestone as the main players for the captains and are hoping for an early pick. Also joining them are England international players Matt Parkinson and Saqib Mahmood as local characters (players from their hometown of Lancashire).
