WPL or Women’s Premier League is a franchise T20 league of women. This league is organized in India but WPL is owned and operated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The first season of WPL was played in March 2023 in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai Cricket Stadium. Five teams participated in this tournament and the Mumbai Indians team was the first winning team of this tournament.
In February 2022, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly announced to conduct of women’s IPL and he named women’s IPL as WPL. WPL is T20 cricket like IPL but women players participate in this tournament.
The title sponsor of the WPL tournament was bought by Tata Group by placing a bid and now the title sponsor of the WPL tournament is Tata Group. Mumbai Indians team had won the first tournament and defeated Delhi Capitals team in the final match.
Five teams participated in the WPL tournament. All the teams have matches with other teams and the team that remains top in the points table qualifies for the semi-finals. The last season of WPL was from March 4, 2023 to March 26. A total of 22 matches were played in this tournament which was played between 2023 and 2023 and these matches were played at Brabourne Stadium and D Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
