Seattle Orcas vs Texas Super Kings Match Pitch Report
Not much is known about the playing conditions at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The stadium was used as a ballpark but has been redeveloped as a cricket ground (reconstruction started in April 2022). Given that it is being used for the opening match of the inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket 2023, one can expect fireworks from the bats and diminishing returns with the ball, as is the case on most T20 pitches.
Reports suggest this will be a good batting wicket in Texas to begin the tournament. A par score is likely to be somewhere around 190.
What to expect:
Team news:
Seattle Orcas: Seattle Orcas’ win over Washington Freedom at Grand Prairie Stadium wasn’t the most convincing one, but they will still be overall happy with the end result. On a wicket that became a little two-paced, they struggled a bit in their chase of 145, but eventually crossed the mark with two balls to spare. Opener Nauman Anwar top-scored with a fluent 48 off 37 balls, while Imad Wasim provided the finishing touches with his unbeaten 43 off 28 balls.
The Orcas’ batting largely depends on Quinton de Kock at the top and Heinrich Klaasen in the middle, with Shimron Hetmyer as their designated finisher. Both De Kock and Klaasen failed to make any contribution in the first game, but we expect either one of them to go make an impact in this match. Hetmyer did his job well in the last match, scoring 23 off 19 balls in the dying moments of the chase. He is likely to continue his good work.
The Orcas produced a solid bowling performance in the first match against MI, restricting them to 144-7 in their 20 overs. Left-arm spinner Imad Wasim was miserly as ever in the Powerplay, and he will pose the biggest challenge to Francisco’s top-order. Andrew Tye (1-26 off 4 overs) bowled tight lines and lengths, and the team will continue to use him in the middle overs.
One major issue for the Seattle Orcas is their bowling department, which lacks experienced seamers beyond Parnell. This can prove to be a big hurdle for them in the tournament.
Seattle Orcas Key Players
- Heinrich Klaasen – The South African power-hitter was in brilliant form during the 2023 Indian Premier League and produced a Player of the Match performance in the last game.
- Shimron Hetmyer – The 26-year-old West Indies international finished on 36 not out in his last innings. He is a very attacking batter and will enjoy the pace on offer in Morrisville.
- Cameron Gannon – The experienced USA pace bowler took three wickets from four balls in the 18th over against San Francisco. He should generate good speed from this pitch as well.
Probable XI: Quinton de Kock(w), Nauman Anwar, Shimron Hetmyer, Heinrich Klaasen, Imad Wasim, Shehan Jayasuriya, Shubham Ranjane, Cameron Gannon, Wayne Parnell(c), Harmeet Singh, Andrew Tye
Seattle Orcas Squad: Quinton de Kock(w), Nauman Anwar, Shimron Hetmyer, Heinrich Klaasen, Imad Wasim, Shehan Jayasuriya, Shubham Ranjane, Cameron Gannon, Wayne Parnell(c), Harmeet Singh, Andrew Tye, Angelo Perera, Dasun Shanaka, Dwaine Pretorius, Hayden Walsh, Aaron Jones, Nisarg Patel, Phani Simhadri, Matthew Tromp
Texas Super Kings: Faf Du Plessis brings a lot of experience as a leader for the Texas Super Kings. They have a strong group of players and will look to make an impressive start in the tournament. The Super Kings’ skipper will know the Knight Riders’ strengths and expect a strong show from his players.
Faf du Plessis shall look to lead from the front and deliver a strong start along with Devon Conway. The side will expect a good show from Saiteja Mukkamalla, Sami Asla, and Ambati Rayudu in the middle order. David Miller, Dwayne Bravo, and Daniel Sams add firepower to this batting line-up down the order.
Bowling is the weak area for the team, and they need a good opening spell from Daniel Sams and Rusty Theron to create problems for the Knight Riders. Mitchell Santner has vast experience and will look to do well along with Zia Shahzad. Bravo needs to deliver the goods in the supporting role.
Texas Super King’s Key Players
- Devon Conway- the 32-year-old left-handed opener hit seven fours and one six in his innings of the opening match. He has been in brilliant form across all formats over the last four years.
- David Miller- the South African took the Player of the Match Award on Thursday with 61 runs from 42 balls. He is a brilliant T20 batter who stars in most leagues he takes part in.
- Mohammad Mohsin- the 27-year-old leg-spinner produced an excellent bowling performance with the wickets of Sunil Narine, Corne Dry, Adam Zampa, and Lockie Ferguson in the opening fixture.
Probable XI: Devon Conway (wk), Faf du Plessis (c), Lahiru Milantha, David Miller, Milind Kumar, Mitchell Santner, Dwayne Bravo, Calvin Savage, Gerald Coetzee, Mohammad Mohsin, Rusty Theron
Texas Super Kings Squad: Faf du Plessis, Milind Kumar, Cody Chetty, Saiteja Mukkamalla, Ambati Rayudu, David Miller, Devon Conway, Calvin Savage, Zia Shahzad, Daniel Sams, Dwayne Bravo, Mitchell Santner, Rusty Theron, Lahiru Milantha, Cameron Stevenson

Seattle Orcas vs Texas Super Kings Match Prediction
This looks like a very interesting contest between two teams who have already recorded two victories in the tournament so far. Seattle Orcas have won all their games but we expect this game to give them their hardest opposition to date. Daniel Sams is an excellent addition to Texas’ bowling attack and our prediction is for Texas Super Kings to win.

Seattle Orcas vs Texas Super Kings Match Both Team Top Batsmen
Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen, and Shimron Hetmyer are our tips with the bat for Seattle Orcas. Keeper-batter de Kock is yet to make a big score in this tournament but has a brilliant T20 record. Klaasen has a T20 strike-rate of 143.91 from 142 innings.
We recommend Decon Conway, David Miller, and Faf du Plessis as our batting choices for Texas Super Kings. Captain du Plessis has contributed only 22 runs so far in the tournament but is a powerful T20 batter once he gets going. Miller’s top T20 score is 120 not out.
Seattle Orcas vs Texas Super Kings Match Both Team Top Team Bowlers
We are backing Cameron Gannon, Wayne Parnell, and Harmeet Singh with the ball for Seattle Orcas. Left-arm spinner Singh has figures of 2-24 and 1-15 so far in the competition. Captain Parnell is very experienced in this format with best figures of 5-30.
Our bowling selections are Daniel Sams, Mohammad Mohsin, and Dwayne Bravo for Texas Super Kings. Bravo is a great entertainer but also a fierce competitor with 615 wickets in this format. Mohsin took two wickets in two balls in the win over MI New York.
