Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers Match Pitch Report
Anticipated to offer a competitive pitch, the SCG is favorable for batters to play their shots, but bowlers with variations will find success. Adjusting the length and reducing the pace will be effective strategies. As the innings progress, spinners are likely to play a more significant role on this surface.
What to expect:
Team news:
Sydney Sixers: Sydney Sixers sent a message out to other teams in the competition that they’re still a force to be reckoned with in the BBL despite some of their key players not being able to take part in the competition due to national duties.
The fanfare was focussed on players like Steve Smith in the opening game, but the talent sitting on the bench put their hand up and stepped up to the plate to help their team register an all-important away win against Hobart Hurricanes.
Sean Abbott didn’t feature in the bowling attack last game, but the other bowlers took it upon themselves to trouble the opposition. They never allowed the Hurricanes to get out of jail, tightened things up by picking up wickets at regular intervals, and restricted the men from Hobart to a total well below par.
The batsmen completed the job thanks to Daniel Hughes, who came into the XI after Steve Smith left the squad for Test duties, for closing out the chase with a match-winning 60 not out in a low-scoring thriller.
Sydney Sixers Key Players
- James Vince – The England international has an excellent BBL record for the Sixers and will be looking forward to playing at the SCG for the first time in this campaign.
- Dan Hughes – The 34-year-old top-order batter top-scored with 60 not out from 50 balls in Match 5. He’ll be full of confidence after taking the Player of the Match Award in that game.
- Ben Dwarshuis – the left-arm pace bowler has had an excellent start to this competition and dismissed Sam Hain and Tim David in the same over against the Hurricanes.
Probable XI: Matthew Short(c), D Arcy Short, Chris Lynn, Jake Weatherald, Adam Hose, Jamie Overton, James Bazley, Harry Nielsen(w), Wes Agar, David Payne, Cameron Boyce
Sydney Sixers Squad: Matthew Short(c), D Arcy Short, Chris Lynn, Jake Weatherald, Adam Hose, Jamie Overton, James Bazley, Harry Nielsen(w), Wes Agar, David Payne, Cameron Boyce, Brendan Doggett, Ben Manenti
Adelaide Strikers: Their bowling attack couldn’t quite put the lid on the scoring and leaked runs from over 1 to 15. Captain Matthew Short and Wes Agar had an off day with the ball and James Bazley was belted out of the attack at the end of his first over, but the other bowlers combined to stem the flow of runs and did exceptionally well in the back end though.
The strip was perfect for batting, but 201 is a daunting total anyway. In reply, Matthew Short paired up with new recruit Darcy Short to put on a 139-run opening wicket partnership to give Strikers a great chance of closing out the match. But Chris Lynn and Jake Weatherald couldn’t get going at all, and it all came down to Englishman Adam Hose to wield his willow and pick up some much-needed boundaries.
And, he did deliver with a scintillating 28*(9) cameo and Strikers got home with 2 balls to spare. Sydney Sixers is a much sterner challenge but having pulled off a huge chase, Adelaide Strikers will be equal to the task.
Adelaide Strikers Key Players
- Matthew Short – The captain led the way at the top of the order in their successful chase of 200+ with five fours and six sixes against Sydney Thunder.
- D’Arcy Short – The 33-year-old left-handed opener has a strong BBL record and struck 66 runs from 47 balls in an opening partnership of 139 alongside Matthew Short in the last match.
- Jamie Overton – the right-arm powerfully built England Test international impressed with the wickets of Matthew Glkes and Daniel Sams in Match 8.
Probable XI: Josh Philippe(w), James Vince, Daniel Hughes, Moises Henriques(c), Jordan Silk, Jack Edwards, Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis, Jackson Bird, Todd Murphy, Steve OKeefe

Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers Match Prediction
This should be a close contest with Sydney Sixers set to have a much stronger batting line-up with Quinton de Kock at the top of the order. However, Adelaide Strikers have been very good with both bat and ball in this year’s BBL and we are backing Sydney Sixers to win this game.
We expect the Sydney Sixers to win this match.

Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers Match Both Team Top Batsmen
James Vince, Josh Philippe, and Daniel Hughes are our batting choices for the Sydney Sixers. Philippe has been a regular at the top of the order for the Sixers over the last few seasons and he is 84 runs away from bringing up 2500 T20 runs. This will be Hughes’ 100th T20 match and he has hit 14 half-centuries in this format.
We recommend D’Arcy Short, Chris Lynn, and Matthew Short with the bat for Adelaide Strikers. Lynn is the all-time leading run scorer in the BBL and even though he may be over his peak, he is still a potential match-winner. D’Arcy Short is 16 runs from 4500 runs in T20 cricket.
Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers Match Both Team Top Team Bowlers
Ben Dwharshuis, Steve OKeefe, and Sean Abbott are our tips for Sydney Sixers. Dwarshuis has taken a 4+ wicket haul on four occasions in T20 cricket.
David Payne, Jamie Overton, and Matthew Short are our selections with the ball for Adelaide Strikers. The pitch at the SCG often takes some turn and Short picked up 1/43 in the last game so could well be a threat on this pitch. Overton has taken 72 wickets across his T20 career.
