Los Angeles Knight Riders vs MI New York Match Pitch Report

Not much is known about the playing conditions at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The stadium was used as a ballpark but has been redeveloped as a cricket ground (reconstruction started in April 2022). Given that it is being used for the opening match of the inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket 2023, one can expect fireworks from the bats and diminishing returns with the ball, as is the case on most T20 pitches.

Reports suggest this will be a good batting wicket in Texas to begin the tournament. A par score is likely to be somewhere around 190.

What to expect:

Team news:

Los Angeles Knight Riders: Sunil Narine will lead the Los Angeles Knight Riders, and they are one of the strongest teams this season. The side has its core from the Kolkata Knight Riders. These players have played together and know each other’s game. Narine would like to see his key players stand up to the occasion and earn their first points in this game.

They have a strong opening combination in Riley Rossouw and Jason Roy, and the pair will look to deliver a good start in this game. Unmukt Chand has to play an important role at No. 3 and add runs with Gajanand Singh and Jaskaran Malhotra. Narine and Andre Russell are powerful hitters making it a formidable batting line-up.

The side will need a good burst with the new ball from Lockie Ferguson and Shadley van Schalkwyk, as their opponents have firepower at the top. Adam Zampa and Narine form a strong spin attack and will look to trouble the batters. Ali Khan and Russell will look to do well in the supporting role.

Los Angeles Knight Key Players

  • Rilee Rossouw- the South African left-handed international made only 4 runs from 3 balls in the opening game. However, he has a brilliant white ball record to fall back on ahead of this match.
  • Andre Russell- the former West Indies international was expensive with the ball against Texas but hit an impressive 55 runs from 34 balls with the bat.
  • Lockie Ferguson- the New Zealand pace bowler began the MLC 2023 tournament by dismissing Faf du Plessis and David Miller and will be looking forward to bowling on this pitch again.

Probable XI: Martin Guptill, Unmukt Chand, Rilee Rossouw, Nitish Kumar, Jaskaran Malhotra (wk), Andre Russell, Sunil Narine (c), Corne Dry, Adam Zampa, Lockie Ferguson, Ali Khan

Los Angeles Knight Squad: Jaskaran Malhotra, Jason Roy, Martin Guptill, Nitish Kumar, Rilee Rossouw, Saif Badar, Unmukt Chand, Ali Sheikh, Andre Russell, Bhaskar Yadram, Shadley van Schalkwyk, Sunil Narine, Adam Zampa, Ali Khan, Corne Dry, Lockie Ferguson

MI New York: Kieron Pollard will lead MI New York in this tournament, and they are seen as one of the strongest sides this season. The side has its core group from the Mumbai Indians franchise of the IPL, and players know each other’s game. Pollard likes leading from the front, and he will be aiming for a good start to the tournament.

Steven Taylor and Dewald Brevis will look for a solid start in this game. A good show at the top will lay a strong platform for the middle order, with players like Nicholas Pooran, Monak Patel, and Tim David. The side has firepower down the order and shall expect quick runs from Pollard and David Weise.

Trent Boult and Kagiso Rabada have vast experience, and the pair will look to deliver a good show with the new ball and put Unicorns under pressure. Sarabjit Ladda and Nosthush Kenjige must rise to the challenge as they take on quality batters in this game. Pollard and Weise shall look to use their experience in the supporting role.

MI New York Key Players

  • Nicholas Pooran- the 27-year-old left-handed keeper-batter hit three sixes and two fours in the defeat on Friday. He is an attacking player irrespective of the team score.
  • Tim David- the right-handed Australian middle-order batter produced another excellent T20 innings in the opening game as he hit 53 not out from 28 balls.
  • Kagiso Rabada- the South African right-arm quick bowler took the wickets of both of San Francisco Unicorns’ openers and will get plenty of pace on this pitch.

Probable XI: Dewald Brevis, Steven Taylor, Monank Patel, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Kieron Pollard (c), Tim David, Hammad Azam, Sarabjit  Ladda, Eshan Adil, Kagiso Rabada, Trent Boult
