London Spirit vs Trent Rockets Match Pitch Report

The deck at the Lord’s is expected to be a well-balanced track. The bowlers may get some lateral movement off the surface due to the slope present at this venue. The batters will have to be on their toes while batting here.

What to expect:

Team news:

London Spirit: London Spirit lost their first match of the season to Oval Invincibles by 3 wickets. Their next match was against Manchester Originals, where they had conceded 138-5 in 80 balls before rain came down and no further play was possible.

Adam Rossington (189 runs in the last 10 matches at a strike rate of 180) and Dan Lawrence (126 runs in the last 8 matches at 126) will be the key to providing London with a solid start.

Matthew Wade played a fine hand of 37 off 27 balls in the first match against Oval Invincibles and will look to continue his form. Another one to watch out for is Daryl Mitchell. The experienced Kiwi middle-order batter was in excellent touch in the recent T20 Vitality Blast, amassing 435 runs in 14 innings for Lancashire at an average of 43.50 and a strike rate of 160. He’s had a lot of playing time in these conditions recently and is our batter to watch out for.

When it comes to bowling, Jordan Thompson (14 wickets in the last 10 matches at an economy of 9.30 runs per ball) and Mason Crane (11 wickets in the last 8 matches at an economy of 9.25 runs per ball) are the ones worth backing.

London Spirit Key Players

  • Zak Crawley – The England Test opener is a naturally aggressive batter and is particularly strong when driving through the off-side.
  • Ravi Bopara – At 38 years of age, the batting all-rounder brings the experience of over 450 T20 games to London Spirit. He dismissed Jos Buttler and Paul Walter at Old Trafford on Saturday.
  • Liam Dawson – The left-arm spinner has been linked with an England Test recall for next January’s tour of India. He has an excellent domestic white ball record.

Probable XI: Adam Rossington(w), Zak Crawley, Daniel Lawrence(c), Matthew Wade, Daryl Mitchell, Ravi Bopara, Matthew Critchley, Jordan Thompson, Liam Dawson, Nathan Ellis, Daniel Worrall

London Spirit Squad: Matthew Wade(w), Zak Crawley, Daniel Lawrence(c), Daniel Bell-Drummond, Michael-Kyle Pepper, Adam Rossington, Daryl Mitchell, Ravi Bopara, Liam Dawson, Chris Wood, Mark Wood, Nathan Ellis, Jordan Thompson, Mason Crane, Matthew Critchley, Daniel Worrall

Trent Rockets: After making a winning start against the Southern Brave in the season opener, the defending champions were forced to share points with Birmingham Phoenix in their most recent fixture, due to inclement weather. Trent is currently 3rd on the points table.

The Trent Rockets will bank on its strong batting line-up to get it to a big total. Alex Hales and Dawid Malan are likely to start the proceedings with the bat. Both of them are clean strikers of the cricket ball and will hope to get a brisk start.

Malan is also the all-time leading run-scorer in the Hundred. With batsmen like Colin Munro, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, and Sam Hain to follow, there is no dearth of firepower in Trent’s arsenal. All-rounders including Imad Wasim, Lewis Gregory, and Daniel Sams add depth to batting.

Sams and Gregory were brilliant with the ball in the opening match, picking up 3 wickets each, and will lead the pace attack along with Luke Wood and Sam Cook, while Matthew Carter and Imad Wasim will be seen with the spin.

Trent Rockets Key Players

  • Dawid Malan – The left-handed all-format batter had a strong T20 Blast tournament for Yorkshire Vikings earlier this year and is a brilliant pacer of his innings.
  • Tom Kohler-Cadmore – The keeper-batter has added plenty of overseas experience in this format over recent years. His top score in short-format cricket is 127.
  • Sam Cook – The right-arm fast-medium bowler will be looking forward to bowling with cloudy overhead conditions. He gets a swing in most games he plays.

Probable XI: Alex Hales, Dawid Malan, Tom Kohler-Cadmore(w), Colin Munro, Sam Hain, Lewis Gregory(c), Imad Wasim, Daniel Sams, Matthew Carter, Luke Wood, Sam Cook

Trent Rockets Squad: Dawid Malan, Alex Hales, Joe Root, Tom Kohler-Cadmore(w), Colin Munro, Sam Hain, Lewis Gregory(c), Rashid Khan, Samit Patel, Daniel Sams, Luke Wood, Brad Wheal, Matthew Carter, Tom Moores, Sam Cook, John Turner

London Spirit vs Trent Rockets Match Prediction

It is a do-or-die game for London Spirit. A win here will keep their hopes intact for a berth in the next round. Their batsmen haven’t had much time at the wicket and must deliver the goods in this game. Trent Rockets have a very strong batting line-up and have never lost against London Spirit. It makes them favorites here.

We expect London Spirit to win this match.

London Spirit vs Trent Rockets Match Both Team Top Batsmen

Matthew Wade, Zak Crawley, and Daryl Mitchell are our tips with the bat for London Spirit. New Zealander Mitchell has been in fine form for his country over the last 24 months and starred for Lancaster Lightning earlier this year. Wade has a top score of 130 not out in T20 cricket.

Sam Hain, Dawid Malan, and Colin Munro are our picks with the bat for Trent Rockets. Hain has been in brilliant form across all formats in 2023 and there are plenty of pundits suggesting an England call-up is around the corner. Munro has hit over 9800 short-format runs in his career.

London Spirit vs Trent Rockets Match Both Team Top Team Bowlers

With the ball, Liam Dawson, Nathan Ellis, and Jordan Thompson are our picks for London Spirit. Ellis went wicketless across the 80 balls at Old Trafford but he has an excellent record in short-format cricket. Thompson was in excellent form for Yorkshire Vikings in this year’s T20 Blast.

We recommend Gus Atkinson, Tom Curran, and Zak Chappell with the ball for Oval Invincibles. Atkinson is understood to be on the verge of an England call-up and took 3-26 on this pitch on Monday evening. Chappell impressed with figures of 1-15 from 20 balls against Welsh Fire.
