WI vs ENG 3rd T20 Match Pitch Report

The pitch at the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada offers favorable conditions for batters. On this surface, the ball comes easily to the bat and the batters can score good runs. The captain who wins the toss may opt to bat first in an attempt to put pressure on the scoreboard by posting a big first innings total. With both teams having power hitters in their ranks, a high-scoring encounter can be expected on Thursday.

What to expect:

Team news:

West Indies: The West Indies continued the momentum gained from their ODI series win over England earlier this month with victory in the first T20I against the same opposition. Another win in this match would put them just one short of sending England home with two series defeats.

All-rounder Andre Russell was characteristically impressive in the T20I series opener. Playing his first T20I in two years, Russell made a big impact with bat and ball. He hit a brisk 29 not out and collected three wickets for the player of the match award. He should be key in this fixture as well.

Alzarri Joseph is another big-ticket player to keep an eye on in St George’s. He, too, clinched three wickets in the series opener. The opposition batters looked genuinely troubled by his nagging lines, lengths, and extra pace. Conditions in Grenada could be equally conducive for Joseph.

Four of the West Indies’ top six batters reached 20 in the first T20I, but nobody collected more than Shai Hope’s 36. The home side could work on their conversion rate. At least one of their batters should have gone on to score 50 or more earlier this week.

West Indies Key Players

  • Kyle Mayers – The left-hander was in a typically aggressive mood in Barbados on Tuesday as he hit four sixes in his 35 runs from 21 balls.
  • Shai Hope – The ODI captain top-scored for West Indies in the first T20I to continue his strong form against England this month.
  • Andre Russell – The 35-year-old all-rounder marked his return to the international arena by taking the Player of the Match after hitting 29 not out and returning the best bowling figures.
  • Alzarri Joseph – The pace bowler was expensive in the last game but still dismissed Will Jacks as well as picking up two more wickets in the final over of the innings.

Probable XI: Brandon King, Kyle Mayers, Shai Hope, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell (c), Andre Russell, Romario Shepherd, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph

England: England is still struggling to shrug off the aftereffects of their disappointing 2023 Cricket World Cup campaign. The Windies are taking advantage, but just one win here could give captain Jos Buttler and company the push needed to succeed for the rest of the tour.

Buttler and fellow opener Phil Salt were superb during the first T20I, putting on 77 for the first wicket inside seven overs. But the middle- through lower-order failed to build on this before the bowlers were largely outplayed by the home side’s batters.

Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran and Ben Duckett should all expect more runs from themselves, individually and collectively, in the second fixture. Livingstone perhaps has a particular point to prove amid global criticism of his drop in form.

England were strong against Windies spinner Akeal Hosein in the series opener. The hosts opened the bowling with him. He was not economical and did not take a wicket. The visitors could sense another opportunity to get after the specialist slow bowler here.

England Key Players

  • Phil Salt – The right-handed opener was in brilliant form on Tuesday as he hit 40 runs from 20 balls with an innings that included six fours and one six.
  • Jos Buttler – It has been a tough tour for the skipper but he looked comfortable back at the top of the order as he sent the ball to the boundary on six occasions in the first T20I.
  • Chris Woakes – The experienced bowling all-rounder very rarely lets England down and he will be looking for more top-order wickets in this game after dismissing opener Brandon King in Barbados.
  • Rehan Ahmed – The spinner has been a real positive for England on this tour of the West Indies and he dismissed Shai Hope, Nicholas Pooran, and Romario Shepherd in the opening game of the series.

Probable XI: Jos Buttler (c & wk), Philip Salt, Will Jacks, Ben Duckett, Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Rehan Ahmed, Adil Rashid, Tymal Mills

WI vs ENG 3rd T20 Match Prediction

A win for West Indies will put them 3-0 up and in a very strong position in the series whereas England is looking to level it at 2-1 in this match. With Andre Russell back in the team, West Indies look powerful with bat and ball but England also look very competitive with Adil Rashid bowling in tandem with Rehan Ahmed. Overall we expect a tight contest but are backing England to win.

We expect England to win this match.

WI vs ENG 3rd T20 Match Both Team Top Batsmen

We are backing Kyle Mayers, Shai Hope, and Brandon King with the bat for the West Indies. King produced an attacking innings at the top of the innings on Tuesday as he hit 22 runs from 12 balls. Keeper-batter Pooran has hit ten T20I half-centuries across his career.

For England, Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, and Phil Salt are our tips with the bat. Opener Salt had the highest strike rate and hit the highest score for his team in the first T20I. Buttler is an excellent T20 player who has hit over 10600 runs in this format.

WI vs ENG 3rd T20 Match Both Team Top Team Bowlers

West Indies, Alzarri Joseph, Romario Shepherd, and Andre Russell are our bowling tips. Bowling all-rounder Shepherd continued his recent strong form with 2/22 from his 4 overs in the first T20I. Russell now has 411 T20 wickets after adding another 3 on Tuesday.

Adil Rashid, Rehan Ahmed, and Chris Woakes are our picks with the ball for England. Rashid came back into the team in Barbados and dismissed the dangerous duo of Kyle Mayers and Shimron Hetmyer. Ahmed is yet to go wicketless on this tour of the Caribbean.
